DWS Drone School Inc. — www.dwsdroneschool.com — in partnership with 3DAerialTec, is seeking experienced video editors, drone content creators, professional photographers, and media production instructors to serve as Independent Contract Instructors for a live online Video Editing Training Program.

This program is designed to teach students the art and science of editing drone footage and producing professional-quality video content for real-world client and industry use. Students will learn video editing fundamentals, storytelling techniques, post-production workflows, and best practices for creating polished video products for industries such as marketing, photography, real estate, security, documentation, training, tourism, and aerial media production.

Selected instructors will teach a live online 6-contact-hour class for college-level students through a partner college located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Course Overview

The Video Editing Training Program will introduce students to the role of video editing, the responsibilities of a video editor, and the creative and technical skills needed to produce professional drone video projects.

Students will learn how to organize footage, select the right editing tools, add transitions, source and add music, use text and overlays, edit video clips, apply post-production effects, and build a professional video highlight project using captured footage.

1. What Is Video Editing?

Instructors will introduce students to:

  • The role of video editing in professional media production
  • The role and responsibilities of a video editor
  • Examples of video projects students can create
  • How drone footage can be edited into professional client-ready products
  • Overall course expectations and learning objectives

2. Video Editing Fundamentals

Estimated Time: 1 Hour

Instructors will teach students core video editing concepts, including:

  • Different types of video editing software
  • Pros and cons of various video editors
  • Common video editing terminology
  • Screen formats and aspect ratios
  • Video codecs and why they matter
  • Frame rates and how they impact video quality and playback

3. Video Editing Software Walkthrough

Estimated Time: 2 Hours

Instructors will provide a practical walkthrough of the video editing process, including:

  • Downloading and preparing video files
  • Importing footage into editing software
  • Organizing project files
  • Adding transitions
  • Sourcing and adding music
  • Telling a story through video
  • Adding text, titles, captions, and overlays
  • Cutting, trimming, and arranging video clips
  • Applying after-effects and post-processing techniques

4. Guided Video Editing Project

Estimated Time: 2.5 Hours

Students will use captured drone footage and lessons learned during the course to produce a professional video highlight project.

The guided project should help students understand how to:

  • Review and select usable footage
  • Build a story-driven edit
  • Add music, transitions, text, and visual enhancements
  • Create a professional highlight reel
  • Prepare a video product suitable for client presentation or portfolio use

Key Responsibilities

Selected Video Editing Instructors may be responsible for:

  • Delivering live online video editing instruction
  • Demonstrating professional video editing workflows
  • Teaching students how to edit drone footage into polished video products
  • Explaining technical concepts in a clear and practical way
  • Providing real-time feedback during live instruction
  • Guiding students through a hands-on video editing project
  • Sharing industry best practices for video editing, storytelling, and client delivery

Required Qualifications

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Professional experience in video editing, photography, videography, drone media, or digital content production
  • Experience editing drone footage or aerial video content
  • Familiarity with professional or beginner-friendly video editing software
  • Ability to teach live online classes
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to explain video editing concepts to students with varying skill levels

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates may also have:

  • Experience creating client-ready videos for marketing, real estate, events, training, security, inspections, tourism, or media campaigns
  • Experience teaching, mentoring, coaching, or leading workshops
  • Knowledge of drone video production workflows
  • Experience with storytelling, music selection, overlays, transitions, and post-production effects
  • Experience helping students or clients create portfolio-quality video content
